In This Week's Pellet Wire:

Executive Director's Notes: Hershey, Social Media Campaign, Fall Board Meeting in DC

Still Smiling Thinking About Hershey

We had an incredibly successful 2019 PFI Annual Conference. The conference delivered on all fronts. We had great weather for our golf outing, a productive board meeting, strong conversations during our conference day, and a unique tour on Friday. Also, the show was a financial success which is critical for the organization. Thank you one last time to everyone who made the success of the conference possible. For a conference of our size, the difference between a financially successful show and a financial dud can come down to 3-4 sponsors. I was also happy to see some new members in attendance as well as members that hadn’t made the conference in a handful of years.

Now, it’s time to fix our gaze on replicating this year’s success next year in Milwaukee. The conference committee chair and our new vice chairman Kenny Lisle and I are meeting next month in Milwaukee to perform a site visit, select a golf course and think about how we make the most of what Milwaukee has to offer. If you haven’t had a look at the conference photographs yet, they can be found here. Thanks again to Darren Winchester and the Indeck Ladysmith team for sponsoring this year’s photographer.

Getting the Word Out – Call for Social Media participants

Later this month we’ll be hosting a webinar about our social media offering for the upcoming heating season. We performed a beta test last year and look forward to taking a step forward with the program later this summer and fall. Please think about any retailers that you think might have an interest in a social media campaign designed to increase foot traffic at their retail location. The program delivers sponsored wood pellet heating ads to Facebook and Instagram users in their market connecting those users to their web page.

Our webinar will include some remarks from a program participant last year. I think retailers will find that the program can be a very cost-effective addition to their marketing program for the upcoming heating season. We’ll be developing a formal invitation that we’re hopeful members will deliver to a handful of their retail clients they feel might benefit from or be interested in the program.

Fall Board Meeting in DC this Fall

This year’s fall board meeting will occur in Washington, D.C. and will likely include some strategic hill visits. We’re looking at either October 21-23 or October 28-30 right now. Members of the PFI are always welcome to join board meetings so if an opportunity to talk about your business with federal policymakers is compelling for you please pencil those two dates into your calendars now.
