In this Week's Pellet Wire:

From the Director's Desk:

Happy Thanksgiving

Probably, this edition of the Pellet Wire finds you either preparing your own home for holiday guests or in transit to someone else’s home. I wish you all safe travels and the very best this Thanksgiving season. I’m thankful for the privilege of working in a great industry filled with great people. This fall found me on the road, visiting member locations and gathering with our board. I’m passionate about the role our industry plays in the broader forest products sector and thrilled to tell that story, but what gives me the most satisfaction in my role is building relationships with all of you. Thank you for your ongoing support of the Pellet Fuels Institute, and me.

A Strong August

EIA data published last week shows that wood pellet sales in August were a welcome relief from the string of "meh" months that preceded it. For the first time in 2021, the monthly sales numbers exceeded the corresponding month’s sales from 2020. U.S. total shipments were 224,527 tons against the production of 174,906, also a high-water mark for the year. Producers dug into plant inventories to fill orders and U.S. total inventory dropped from 304,185 to 269,886. Heating Degree Days are still lagging historical averages all across pellet land, but in conversations with our producer members, it sounds like November business has been brisk.

Be Safe Out There (Take 2!): Hunting season is here and that finds many of us in the woods pursuing deer, pheasants, ducks, and grouse. Frank Scorzetti (ProAmpac) is pictured here (second from front) with his family on a recent outing. I wish you all a safe and fruitful season in your neck of the woods. If you think of it, send along a photo. Bonus points (and certain inclusion in a future Pellet Wire) for any picture that also includes wood pellets or a wood pellet appliance.

Send Us Photos! Help us build a collection of photos of our members, their pellets mills, and product! Send images to Tim Portz at [email protected].
